Round and Smart Serial LCD Modules for Automotive Aftermarket Instrument Clusters
A retrofit gauge or an EV conversion dashboard has to survive a cabin that swings from a cold overnight start to a hot closed car in summer, fit a round or small cutout that was never designed for electronics, and talk to a controller over a couple of wires rather than a full display bus. We build round panels from 1.28" to 3.4", OLED modules for compact clusters, and smart serial modules that render a screen from simple commands - plus panels rated to switch on at -30 °C or colder.
Model, size and rating figures on this page are read directly from the specifications of our published models - the same numbers appear on each product page. Of the 188 models in our current production list, 10 are tagged internally for this application; the 18 below are the ones with a full English specification published so far.
What this application actually demands
| Requirement | Why it decides the design | What we build |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Retrofit gauges and pods are usually round or a small non-standard rectangle, not a stock TFT aspect ratio. | Round panels from 1.28" to 3.4"; small rectangular and OLED for pod-style clusters |
| Cold start | A vehicle left outside overnight has to power up cold, not just run cold once it has warmed up. | -30 °C and colder operating range on our wide-temperature parts |
| Host effort | Most retrofit and EV-conversion projects run on a small MCU, not an automotive-grade SoC with a display controller. | Smart UART modules with on-board controller - the host sends values, the module draws the gauge |
| Mounting and connector | A dashboard or handlebar mount sees continuous vibration a desktop enclosure never does. | FPC length, exit direction and connector position built to your bracket, quoted from your drawing |
| Daylight visibility | An open dashboard or motorcycle cluster is read in direct sun, not an indoor cabinet. | Brightness options up to our published maximum; ask about a transflective build for all-day outdoor use |
Models that fit
Selection rule: round LCD modules and smart serial (UART) modules of any size, plus any panel rated to operate at -30 °C or colder at 7" or under. Nothing else is filtered - if a published model meets that rule it is in this table, and you can check it against the specification on the product page. Values are typical at 25 °C.

Three things that go wrong
Written from the enquiries we have to correct most often.
Assuming a round panel is a drop-in gauge replacement
A round display is a display, not a gauge with a needle motor's mounting pattern. Bezel diameter, cutout depth and how the FPC exits the back of the panel all have to match the pod or dash cutout before glass is ordered - send the mechanical drawing, not just the diagonal size.
Specifying standard temperature for a vehicle that sits outside
Standard-range panels are rated to -20 °C. A vehicle parked outside overnight in a cold climate sees colder than that at the moment it is switched on - that is a cold-start question, not an average-temperature one. Use the wide-temperature parts, not the standard range, for anything mounted outside a heated cabin.
Writing a graphics driver for a single gauge value
If the display only ever shows a small set of values - speed, state of charge, a warning icon - a smart serial module removes the graphics work entirely. Writing a driver for a bare panel makes sense when the UI is complex; for a single-purpose gauge it is usually wasted engineering time.
What we can change - and what we cannot
Changed on a catalogue panel
FPC length, pin order and exit direction; connector type; backlight brightness and colour; touch panel and cover glass; driver IC selection within what the glass supports; PCBA and firmware on smart serial modules. These start at 100 pcs and do not need new glass tooling.
Needs new tooling
A new glass size or shape, a custom segment layout, a new touch sensor pattern. Tooling MOQ is 1,000 pcs and we quote the tooling cost separately so you can see what is one-off and what is per-piece.
What we will not claim
We do not quote a panel we cannot build to your temperature, brightness and lifetime figures at the same time. If one of the three has to give, we say which one before you order samples rather than after.
Commercial terms
Sample 5 pcs in 10-15 days; production 100 pcs in 10-20 days. EXW, FOB Shenzhen, CIF. T/T, L/C, PayPal. Packed as anti-static bag + foam tray + export carton.

10 modelsAutomotive Aftermarket & EV Instrument Clusters displays - questions
Do you supply displays for automotive OEM production?
No - we are not IATF 16949 certified and do not claim automotive-grade qualification. What we build well is aftermarket, retrofit and EV-conversion instrument displays: round and small-format panels and smart serial modules for gauge clusters, dashboards and handlebar pods, at volumes from 5 pcs samples upward.
Can a round display survive being mounted on a dashboard or handlebar?
The panel is rated the same as any of our modules; what changes for a vehicle mount is the FPC routing, connector choice and how the glass is bonded into your bracket - tell us the mounting method and we will flag anything that needs a different connector or a stiffer FPC.
What operating temperature do I need for an outdoor vehicle display?
If the vehicle is stored outside in a cold climate, specify our wide-temperature parts (-30 °C or colder) rather than the -20 °C standard range - the display has to switch on cold, not just tolerate cold once it is already running.
Do your smart serial modules support a simple gauge protocol?
Yes - they take UART commands and render the screen themselves, so a small MCU can drive a colour gauge display by sending values rather than pixels. Send us the value set you need to display and we will confirm the command list.
What are the MOQ and lead time?
Samples 5 pcs in 10-15 days; production 100 pcs for catalogue models and 1,000 pcs where new tooling is needed, 10-20 days.
Need a quote or a datasheet?
Send us size, resolution, interface and annual quantity. Our engineers reply within one working day. Sample MOQ 5 pcs, lead time 10-20 days.
